"Lifers" : - The Chiton Club is what it is today due to the past efforts of our Life Members. Here is a little info on them all starting with our first president. More soon.... If anyone has more info, incriminating stories etc or photo's on any life member please forward it to us.

 Lloyd Tugwell (deceased)

This original softwood board was owned and used by Mr. Lloyd Tugwell, first President and a Life Member of Chiton Rocks SLSC, in the 1930’s at Chiton Rocks Beach.

It was presented to our club by Lloyd and serves as a reminder of our strong past links with his old and now defunct club, Victor Harbor LSC.

At the time of its use Lloyd was a patrolling member of Victor Harbor and used to hire out similar boards to raise much needed funds for his club.

Jim Miller - esq

Was one of the first to surf in SA and really has never cahnged. Has been defined as a unique specimen by his doctor, who finds it astounding that a person can absorb so much sun and beer and still be functioning....!!!!

Darren Hocking

Darren Hocking, alias "Bulldog" and more commonly known now as "Hocko", first ventured to the Chiton Surf Club in the early 1970's with his father Michael, who was then a member of the club. Hocko was then 15 years old.

In the late 1970's Hocko became an active member of the Chiton Rocks Surf Club. He was a much valued and well-respected club member who served as Club Captain for 8 years and was also Club Champion for 5 years.

Hocko was a top Surf Boat Rower who competed for the Henley Surf Club; his Surf Boat crew won many medals in the Surf Lifesaving State Titles and other surf carnivals.

Hocko would be classed as a Man's Man and has never been known to back down to anyone.

Hocko currently resides at Ceduna, SA and is the owner of a large and well-equipped workshop there known as Hocko's Mechanical Repairs. The loves of his life are his daughter "Katelyn", his partner "Emmily", his dog "Minx" and, last but not least, surfing the famous caves break at Cactus Beach on the West Coast of SA.

 Dr Andrew Madsen

Andrew now resides in Toorak (or nearby) and has apparently moved to Melbourne so he can be seen at some of Australia's major sporting events. A mad crows supporter Andrew probably came as close as he will ever get to heaven in 1997 and 1998 unless the crows can do it agin in 2004.

Probably best remembered at Chiton for that "Slab of concrete."

Peter Byrne. BM Esq.

Due to computer hardware limitations, our server cannot handle the size of file required to summarize Peter.

His experience has seen Peter enjoy numerous exchange tours to various other surflifesaving clubs both in Australia and globally with a very informative time spent with North Curl Curl where Peter extended his kudos as the ‘man of action’.

Peter missed his school days so much that he recently "went back to school" after a short stint helping Ziggy run Telstra!

Scott Johnstone

Currently living in Melbourne with his fiance Sue. Retired from his band after the women stopped lusting after him!!

Barry Paynter

I think the picture says it all.

"Don't mess with me!! You have been told.!!!"

Glen Duncan

After the retirement of those lifesaving legends like Frank Drenth, Benny White, Grant Kenny, Hocko, Fletch, Dwayne Thuys, and Norman "Marine Boy" Cooke Glen went on to win 10 club champs but had to then retire cause he only has ten fingers.

Glen has gained the nickname "Nasty" due to his involvment with Nastysurfboards.com.

Glen

Andrew O'Callaghan

Could have been Australia's greatest ever singer but just could not get the right gig!!!

Gavin O'Callaghan

Often wearing sun glasses. Next time you see a display at eg. Adelaide car show, Gavin probably built it.

Paul Frost

Just married Paul builds a mighty fine Kitchen.

Graham Smith ( left)

After a being a police officer, aquatic instructor, publican, shop owner and property speculator Graham has now semi retired to his property which overlooks the ocean near Normanville.

David "Beatle" Edwards

Mmmmm
